Around 25,000 households in southeastern Queensland woke up experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems passed over the region, generating wind gusts topping 109km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Damage

Residents witnessed giant hailstones reaching sizes of seven centimeters in certain regions. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been affected by significant hail.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams activated to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, around one thousand households in the southern state also encountered power outages after Melbourne experienced its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams handled over five hundred calls for help across the region, primarily for property damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

• Werribee region - recorded substantial weather impact
• Hoppers Crossing area - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham region - nearly 180 emergency requests

At one point on Sunday, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along significant areas of Queensland's east this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing storm activity predicted across various areas of both areas.

Health Warning

Public health experts warned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, especially given the current weather patterns.

This alert comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to substantial respiratory problems in the state.
