From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the party reach places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can expect finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
